Third week in Mbale

After three weeks, I really start to feel at home here in Mbale. We meet people who know us all around the town, and sometimes we even recognise them. On our way to work in the morning, we often meet some of the CRO kids. They want to follow us to CRO, and often, like this morning, we end up walking hand in hand with two kids each. Most of the CRO kids also greet us cheerfully when we pass them on bodabodas, shouting our names. It is good to hear my name shouted after me for a change. I am starting to get a bit tired of hearing "Mzungu!", "Mzungu how are you?" and "Mzungo, bye!" from all directions.

9. of December we are invited to a wedding. Esther, one of the Act Nowers who were in Norway last year is getting married. Thursday one of the teachers took me and Thomas to several tailors to get a suitable outfit. I ended up ordering a kitenge shirt and a fitting pair of pants , and I even ordered a suit for use in Norway. When the suit costs 80000 Ush (300 NOK) and the kitenge 35000 Ush, I felt I could afford both. Picking it up on Thursday!

Wednesday we had a meeting with our supervisor evaluating the orientation programme. We were given the task of making a proposal for our own schedules. We will present them for the supervisor tomorrow. I will present my final schedule in a post next week. Looking forward to getting started with the real work.

Yesterday was another football day. I played 85 minutes of the match, resulting in a headache for the rest of the day. To little water and to much sun and physical activity...

African life is still good, but the chocolate here is not like the one at home. We ration with what we have brought of Norwegian Melkesjokolade. If we get some refill from our visitors from Norway, we have figured we can eat one every third weekend. Next weekend is a Melkesjokolade-weekend.
